The Patriarchal Camp of Pedopolis: A Beacon of learning the Greek Language

A Beacon of Greek Language Learning

The Patriarchal Camp of Pedopolis in Istanbul is a unique space for education and cultural enrichment for the children of the Greeks and beyond. With a focus on Greek learning, the camp offers an environment where the Greek language, history, and traditions come to life.

Through interactive lessons, games, theatrical performances, and workshops, children learn to love and use the Greek language naturally and creatively. At the same time, their connection to culture and Orthodox tradition strengthens their spiritual identity.

Pedopolis is not just a summer camp; it is a cultural and linguistic school of life, where the next generation of Greeks learns to express, think, and dream in Greek.

The Patriarch at the Children’s Camp of Istanbul

On July 11, 2023, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew officiated at the Divine Liturgy at the Hristos Monastery on the island of Kinali. Each summer, the monastery’s facilities, located at the hilltop of the island, host the Patriarchate’s children’s camps, welcoming Greek children of Istanbul and beyond.

Following the Divine Liturgy, the Patriarch conducted a Blessing Ceremony to mark the beginning of the new camp season, offering his blessings to the group of children and their chaperones—this time from the Greek community of Romania—who were being hosted at Pedopolis. He also blessed those responsible for running the camp.
Later, the Patriarch led a Memorial Service for the repose of the soul of Simeon Siniosoglou, our Great Benefactor, at his gravesite located in the monastery courtyard.
